Parent Council Meeting – 28 March
Dear parents and carers,
you are all welcome to the next Parent Council meeting on Thursday 28 March at 6.30pm in the Staff Room in Drummond Community High School. To find the staff room, turn left right after the entrance, and the right down the stairs.
The main items are:
- Amber Beaston from Skills Development Scotland will be speaking about the work she does and the support she can offer parents and carers.
- The school is introducing planners for all year groups and would like parents’ thoughts on what can be included in these to help them support students.
- The application to Leith Chooses by Broughton Primary School and partners (including Drummond) for “Growing Crops” was successful – we’ll hear about initial plans.
- We’ll have an update on Drummond Decides and how ideas for fundraising are developing.
There will also be the usual Headteacher’s report and Q&A, and we’ll consult on how we should update our constitution.
There will be tea, coffee, juice and biscuits.
Please let us know if you need help with translation – email drummond.parent.council@gmail.com

opportunity for parents to learn about the range of Foundation Apprenticeships – Edinburgh College
Venue: Edinburgh College Granton Campus, 350 West Granton Road, Edinburgh, EH5 1QE
Thursday 7 March 2019
6pm – 8pm
Edinburgh College, Skills Development Scotland and Developing the Young Workforce are co-hosting an information evening for parents of pupils from Schools in Edinburgh, East and Midlothian. This event will provide all the information you need to know about the new types of Apprenticeships and career pathways.
Employers are keen to recruit young people who are ‘Work Ready’. The new Foundation Apprenticeship pathways in the senior phase provide an opportunity for pupils to gain work experience and industry recognised qualification whilst still at school.
A high percentage of job openings in our region over the next 10 years will require higher level qualifications. The good news is that more and more employers are offering opportunities for young people to earn while they learn, to get qualified through Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships.
Working Futures’ gives you the chance to find out more about these new career pathways and the opportunities they present. Hear from young people about the advantages of work based learning and their own experiences. Meet and chat with employers and university partners. There will also be the chance to get hands on with some of the practical aspects of the Foundation Apprenticeships.
Programme:
| 6.00pm | Wine, refreshments & canapés served in the Campus Hub |
| 6.30pm | Welcome & presentations |
| 7.00pm | Browse exhibition area, chat to employers, apprentices, Faculty Teams & Partners |
