Free Bus Travel for young people age 5-21
Dear Parent/Carer
From 31 January, 5–21 year olds living in Scotland will be eligible for free bus travel across Scotland with a valid National Entitlement Card. You can apply from 10 January 2022. However, in light of high levels of COVID-19 transmission, the Scottish Government is asking that you only apply for the scheme at this point if it is essential* that you, or your child, travel while restrictions are in place. All other eligible applicants will be proactively encouraged to apply at a later date.
*There is no prescribed list of what constitutes essential travel – it will differ for different children, young people and families. But it might include travel for education, training, work, care or health reasons.
Even if your child already has a National Entitlement Card or Young Scot National Entitlement Card, they must apply for a new or replacement card to travel by bus for free.
Please see below for links to a couple of videos with step-by-step instructions on how to apply for a NEC and free bus travel through getyournec.scot. These first videos look at the process for a parent/carer applying for a new card for their child aged 5-15, and for requesting a replacement card with travel for a child who already has a NEC.

Staying Safe
Please follow the latest Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance at all times.

The University of Edinburgh: Online Drop In Sessions for S5 Pupils with Provisional Grades
Here at the University of Edinburgh, we are conscious that current S5 (new S6) pupils receiving provisional grades for their National 5s and Highers before the summer holidays may have queries and concerns about their next steps, eg if they need to review their S6 choices, or if they need advice on required grades / subjects for a particular degree . With that in mind, we are delighted to be able to provide regular “drop in” online sessions on a Friday afternoon (from 2pm til 4pm) for any pupils interested in applying to the University of Edinburgh for 2022 entry. They will be staffed by members of the University’s Student Recruitment Team, who can give advice and guidance about S6 course choice, required grades and subjects for entry to the University, and give general UCAS application advice.
These sessions will run on the “Collaborate” online platform between 1400 and 1600 every Friday from 25th June until 6thAugust inclusive. There is no need for pupils to pre-register: they can just log in at any time during any of the sessions. Teachers, parents and advisers are also very welcome to pop in to ask any questions.
To access any of the sessions, they can use this link: https://eu.bbcollab.com/guest/ccd954a91eba40bea2ab00f206d444bc
S4 pupils who have queries about S5 choices are also welcome to attend any of the sessions.
Any current S6 pupils who are already holding conditional offers for the University of Edinburgh, who are concerned after receiving their provisional grades, we have published guidance online which they can be directed to:
