UCAS applicants in S5/S6

LEAPS are launching a brand new summer programme which they have called “Startsmart!”

Running for two weeks in July, Startsmart will offer students the  opportunity to experience some university academic skills teaching, some subject teaching and a chance to take part in organised social activities and make friends ahead of starting their studies in the Autumn. This new programme is purely preparation and transition support, and does not impact on admissions.

Startsmart will be based at the University of Edinburgh central campus and is open to any student who is holding an offer through UCAS for a 2019 start. Startsmart is completely free of charge and LEAPS will also cover the cost of students travel.  This programme will thoroughly prepare students for the transition to their University courses.

Please find a link to the Startsmart website here:

Applications are to be completed on the website and are open now!

Parent Council Meeting – 28 March

Dear parents and carers,

you are all welcome to the next Parent Council meeting on Thursday 28 March at 6.30pm in the Staff Room in Drummond Community High School.  To find the staff room, turn left right after the entrance, and the right down the stairs.

The main items are:

  • Amber Beaston from Skills Development Scotland will be speaking about the work she does and the support she can offer parents and carers.
  • The school is introducing planners for all year groups and would like parents’ thoughts on what can be included in these to help them support students.
  • The application to Leith Chooses by Broughton Primary School and partners (including Drummond) for “Growing Crops” was successful – we’ll hear about initial plans.
  • We’ll have an update on Drummond Decides and how ideas for fundraising are developing.

There will also be the usual Headteacher’s report and Q&A, and we’ll consult on how we should update our constitution.

There will be tea, coffee, juice and biscuits.

Please let us know if you need help with translation – email

Please let us know if there is anything else you would like to discuss by emailing

If you can’t get to the meeting, but you’d like to be involved, please contact us.

Best wishes,

David Sterratt
