Modern Languages

All pupils at Drummond study French (LV2) and Spanish (LV3) from S1 up to S3, in line with the 1+2 programme. They then have the opportunity to continue their language learning journey at Senior school and can choose to study either French, Spanish or both at the following levels: National 3, National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.

Pupils will be developing the four skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking) in a wide range of engaging topics such as food and drink, sports and leisure and holidays. They will also enhance their cultural knowledge about France and Spain.

We are passionate about the need for a foreign language in a young person’s education:

  • Future employability benefits
  • Transferable skills acquired through learning another language
  • Increased confidence, adaptability and cognitive abilities
  • Acute awareness of other cultures’ ways of life and traditions

Digital language learning is very much promoted at Drummond and pupils regularly have access to various interactive language websites and apps to ensure they consistently have a fun, interactive and enjoyable experience.
